Glowing Pots

Aren't these interesting? They're illuminated planters. DWR carries them and through a quick google search I also found them offered by Lone Star Orchids, based out of Texas.
Their description notes "these...planters are made in Italy and incorporate a Dutch-designed remote that allows you to add or subract color for a unique variety of color options. 20 programmed light choices." This is the first time I've come across these and I'm intrigued. Have a great weekend! First image via Living etc July 2008

Canadian House & Home is Blogging!

One of my all time favorite magazines, Canadian House and Home, is now blogging! They've just started so there's only a few posts up per blogger. However, if the quality of the magazine is any indication, we should be in for some insightful posts and good sources. A post by Michael Penney on DIY lighting caught my attention as it's been on my to-do list for a long time! The inspiration is a lamp from a Tom Scheerer design (first image) Michael recommends the Medina Glass jar by West Elm and it turns out it's now on sale. Also consider checking out Michael's plans for converting thrift store side tables into DIY Stools here.

Lights please

Love these lights from Modern Dose. Just had to post them so I wouldn't loose track of them. The first is the Pagoda Sconce and the second is the Cherish Pendant.

Want this...Purchased these...

Love this, want this - Ochre's Arctic Pear Chandelier. It has been posted about quite a bit, I just discovered it. Ochre is based in the UK (with a store in NYC) and I can only imagine what this creative, gorgeous piece of lighting must cost.

Is it bad of me to want Z Gallerie to be inspired by it?

Purchased these for the bureau in my entry way that I am painting. In light of my desire to reform my procrastination habit and lack of closure with decorating projects (see previous post), for the record I began this painting project right before Christmas. The paint was a bolder green than I had hoped for but now I have a solution without having to re-paint the whole thing.

The hall bathroom is almost completely redone - except for a showerhead (and a new faucet but the current one is ok for now). So I just ordered this Speakman LEED Standard eco friendly 6-jet Anystream.
If it turns out to be great, I'll order 2 more for the other bathrooms (possibly the model that uses only 1.5 GPM as opposed to the 2 GPM of this model)
O.K. - 2 things off the list. Estimating about 222 more to go. Hey, when you have a design addiction you got to keep things in the pipeline!

Avrett Furniture & Lighting - Stunning!

I wish I could say I was the design savvy blogger who found Avrett - instead they found me and asked me to take a peek at their hand forged works. One look and I was smitten. Based in Charleston, SC since 1980, they offer a range of beautiful pieces and not only can customize to meet your needs but can also create one of a kind, hand forged works. Here are just a few of their classic, timeless designs that I think could be at home in a historic house or brand new construction. What is also so impressive are the 24 gorgeous finishes! (I plan to give them a ring tomorrow to find out more - but impatient me had to post this right away)
Love the scale of this curved base - such attitude!

Love these sconces by David Iatesta

House Beautiful, designer Paul Wiseman, photography by Tim Street-Porter

I first saw these David Iatesta Tole Flora sconces at the Spring '07 Washington Design Showhouse in the Palm Beach powder room designed by Tricia Huntley. They make an intriquing design statement and provide flattering light to boot!

Rotolo sconce, Love this one too! In addition to sconces, David Iatesta offers a full line of furnishings and accessories.

For a very comprehensive look at sconces, check out Cote de Texas's post. It was one of the first posts I read when I "discovered" the world of interior design blogs (...I know, I was late to the party!)

Tord Boontje - magical lighting

garland light

midsummer light

closeup of the midsummer light

I love these magical lights from Tord Boontje, the award winning Dutch designer. The garland light is made from a continuous strand of metal and can be wrapped and configured into the shape you desire. It is in the permanent collection of MOMA in New York and the Victoria and Albert museum in London. The midsummer light is made from two layers of cut tyvek - in our house it is often deployed as a "night light" as it casts a soft, beautiful pattern on the wall. Both use one 60W bulb.
